The waves lashing at your feet,the cool breeze rushing through your T-shirt ,tickling you .The force of the water trying to push and pull you, and the sand slipping under your feet.The sea promises all these if you go to the beach.
Now ,why out of all beaches is the Besant Nagar beach so special ? Hmm...this requires a little bit of thaught.Lets put it this way,what kind of people surround us when we are on this beach on a weekend? Families - uncle,aunties ,grandparents and a beautiful grand daughter, all well dressed.They just hop out of the car and sit on the beach to gossip and munch home made food that they carried with them.Another set of people are college students from other parts of the country stuck in Chennai to study.They come either in groups or in couples.The groups just go wild,shouting at each each other,pushing tugging in the waters.Last time I went to the beach I saw a group of four guys and a girl.The guys were just pushing the girl into the water,then pulling her drastically ,wow ! and the girl was enjoying their company ,efforts and attention.By the way one can catch sight of a lot of NIFT females on a weekend.NIFT is close to the Besant Nagar beach so they just flock in and mesmerize.They know the art of drawing attention.So even if they are few in number you can't help but notice them.
Thirdly one can find couples,although they are college students but it sounds more specific to classify them.They generally make it to the beach when the Sun goes below the horizon.Lying on each other ,eyes meeting passionately and then the soft smile,embracing each other as if a single soul...Sitting at the beach with a soulmate is like dream come true for teens in Chennai.You cant miss out another class of people coming to the beach,the drunk and pensive ones.They just sit and finish bottles without cairing about the rest of the worl surrounding them.
There are other people also, people who earn their living selling food or shells on the beach or begging if they are completely helpless.
In brief this is the senario of Besant Nagar beach in evenings.You can see people bathing in the sea or playing with the waves.Mothers shouting at kids,"don't go too far in the sea". Relaxed people spending time with family and friends after all worldly termoils.

Cute description of the beach..but u missed the garbage that you see lying here and there..I bet u'll agree VGP Golden Beach is the cleanest..[;)]
Ya Golden beach is clean because they charge you Rs.125 for entry...If we sneak in then its a different issue,but anyway the sides of the VGP golden beach are less visited and hence clean...Its in a less populated area and far away from the city on the ECR road.
But I completely agree to your point about the garbage dumped by people.Look at Marina beach,its getting spoiled because of pollution from Chennai city.Besant Nagar is atleast better than Marina in this respect.We are spoiling the longest beach in India,save Marina.
